Don't be surprised if you are lukewarm to the program upon first viewing. This is a show that grows on you with each episode. The first time I saw LOTSW I was underwhelmed... but I watched a few more and it began to grow on me. A few more and I was hooked!

Warner and the BBC appear to still be listening (or are we just purchasing them in large enough quantities?) as, though again overpriced for just 7 episodes, we get series five of our favorite retirees.

From the press release:

"The year is 1979 and Compo, Clegg, Foggy continue their gentle hijinks in the picturesque village of Pennine up in the Yorkshire Dales. The adventures this time around includes Foggy taking Compo and Clegg to see a piece of history - the Steam Preservation Society's reopening of an old railway line. However, Compo and Clegg's energy only go so far when Foggy is in the grip of another enthusiastic ambition. Meanwhile, the trio does not have the monopoly on quirkiness when Sid and Wally are seen creeping around the woods with bedding rolls."

Once again, a BBC series does *not* include the "Christmas Special" episodes, 2 this time, that truly should be included. I don't understand this mentality. Hopefully these will someday appear on a LOTSW "Christmas Specials" release.

To Warner/BBC:
Get on with it! At the current release rate of 2 series per year we'll see the successor to Blu-ray come to market before all series are out on standard DVD! For a program with a over 30 year run, 2 per year is entirely too slow a release rate!

          5.0 out of 5 stars
          Bravo, Wine Diva!
I drink wine but I have never known anything about it... Because I love to throw parties and plan events, I decided it was time to learn.

I'm not a wine connoisseur but I've been known to drink quite a few bottles. I picked this book up thinking it would be a quick read on a short plane trip. But I found that it was a great reference manual, and I keep going back to it for tips. It's very easy to follow and organized well. One of the best aspects of the book is the Wine Diva's advice on navigating a wine list, which I often find intimidating. She takes the mystery out of it, decodes the list and makes the whole process easy and enjoyable.

I'd recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn a little more about great vino and have fun at the same time.

I'm not an expert, but I have read my five feet of bookshelf devoted to tomes of wisdom, on the mysteries and pleasures in my twenty odd cases of wines. I didn't really expect to learn very much from this diminutive volume, obviously meant to inform beginners. Frankly, the book is a jewel. Witty, extremely readable, concise, packed with common sense and real insider info on enjoying wine. There was barely a page that didn't contain stuff I really want to know. Its like having a world class expert, feeding you tips. The book is over flowing with useful tips. The amazing thing is that this is a book that beginners will find completely accessible, fun to read and filled with useful information, much of which, I hadn't acquired in forty years of aspiring to be worthy of my cellar.

I find it very intimating to buy in a high-end wine shop like Sherry-Lehmann because I'm strictly in the under $20-a-bottle category buyer. But the Wine Diva even tells you how you can find excellent $10 bottles of wine without embarrassment. I love her idea of associating names of wines with common words so that you can remember them when you're ordering in a restaurant. Like remembering that Riesling sounds like "wrestling." Many great tips for wine lovers.

I bought this picnic basket as a gift for my husband's birthday. The contents were very tasty and the flavors blended wonderfully with the Shiraz Cabernet wine I bought to go with it. The only drawback we had was that there was no handle on the basket, so we had to carry it under our arm from the car to the picnic spot we chose. Overall, this was one of my husband's best birthday's...his words!
